The Chibembe

Traditional Walking Trails Safari

Chibembe traditional Walking Trails Safari

Chibembe Wildlife Reserve are pleased to offer a fully inclusive 3 day/2 night, or 4 day/3night safari experiences in the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

Unlike a safari lodge, where the main activities are vehicle-based, Chibembe provides a traditional ‘Norman Carr’ walking safari experience, away from the busy Mfuwe hub, exploring the bush on foot in a leisurely way spending time enjoying the wildlife and landscape. Tailored entirely to the client’s wishes, the walks range from an hour to all day hikes, supported by porters.  All walking safaris are conducted by a qualified, experienced and knowledgeable Njobvu Safaris guide, backed up by an armed game scout.

Chibembe, Norman Carr’s original safari camp established in the 1970’s, where Norman created the traditional ‘walking trails’ safaris the Luangwa Valley is famous for, is in the remote north-east corner of the South Luangwa National Park, overlooking the Luangwa River. The Chibembe walking area covers thousands of acres in the South Luangwa National Park and Chibembe Wildlife Reserve and walks are tailored to the clients’ needs. The safari includes at least one half-day game drive in the Nsefu Sector of the South Luangwa National Park en route into, or back from, Chibembe.

Chibembe Bush Camp comprises four tents-under-thatch with en-suite bush showers and flush loos providing double and twin sleeping arrangements. With no vehicles nearby, the only sounds are the calls of the wildlife and grunts of resident hippos.  Booked on an exclusive basis the camp accommodates up-to 8 people.  Whilst the camp does not pretend to be a luxurious ‘glamping’ experience, our safari tents  have double or twin bed configuration under a mosquito net, cotton bed-linen with duvets for the cooler evenings, solar lights and en-suite showers and flush loo.  Ice-cold drinks, wholesome food cooked by Jodan, Njobvu Safaris’ chef ,will amaze you considering the nearest shop is 120 kilometres away.

Being able to explore thousands of acres of South Luangwa National Park and the Chibembe Wildlife Reserve, away from vehicles, on foot, and enjoying the experience from an exclusive traditional safari tent, is not possible in many parts of Africa anymore. Chibembe is a rare gem in an increasingly cluttered wilderness.  We look forward to sharing Chibembe with you.

The 3 day/2 night Chibembe safari experience costs US$695 per person ex Mfuwe and is available from 1st August to 15th November 2019 and 15th June to 15th November 2020.
